In the Kuril Islands between Russia and Japan there are no golden beaches, no palm trees and no pina colada. So why go there? Because each island is different from its neighbor, they have an extraordinary nature, a history of an indigenous culture that is disappearing and a sense of the end of the world, and this is a particularly remote place that only about 150 tourists visit a year.

More than 70 years after the last shot was fired in World War II, and almost 170 years since Russia and Japan signed an agreement in 1855 under which part of the Kuril Islands would be under Japanese sovereignty and the Sakhalin Island under Russian control, the two countries are still unable to resolve a persistent and persistent territorial dispute A hundred year old blood.
